Michelangelo 2 Essay, Research Paper

Michelangelo Buonarroti is arguably one of the most inspired creators in the history of art and the most potent force in the Italian High Renaissance. As a sculptor, architect, painter, and poet, he exerted a tremendous influence on his contemporaries and on subsequent Western art in general.

Michelangelo was born March 6, 1475, in the small village of Caprese

near Arezzo. He lived during the Italian High Renaissance. Although he

was born in Caprese, he lived in Florentine. There he created some of the

most spectacular works of art ever. One in particular was the statue David.

Michelangelo had a serious reason for creating this statue. He made this

statue to show the people who David, the Old Testament hero who defeated

Goliath, actually was.

David is shown by Michelangelo as a lithe nude youth, muscular and

alert, looking off into the distance as if sizing up the enemy Goliath. The

fiery intensity of David s facial expression is termed terribilit , a feature

characteristic of many of Michelangelo s figures and of his own personality.

David, Michelangelo s most famous sculpture, became the symbol of

Florence and originally was place in the Piazza della Signoria in front of the

Palazzo Vecchio, the Florentine town hall.

With this statue, Michelangelo proved to his contemporaries that he

not only surpassed all modern artists, but also the Greeks and Romans, by

infusing formal beauty with powerful expressiveness and meaning.

Michelangelo s David does not make me feel a certain way. It is

simply a magnificent statue. This statue does not have a certain mood.

David is a statue of David in the nude looking off into the distance. The

color is white, so it does not show any mood through its color. This work of

art is a realistic figure of David.

The statue is a masterful work of art. There was a lot of details put

into David. His muscles are very visible and detailed. This statue is

breathtaking and worthy of being

mentioned as one of the greatest works of

art ever. If you were to look at David, you could mistake it for a very pale,

but live, human. It is so realistic, it looks almost lifelike. There are so many details from the hair on his head, to the toenails on his toes.

This work of art would have great value to anybody. It is so popular

and priceless that it would be amazing just to see it in a museum. David is

such a breathtaking statue, that it brings all emotions out of people just by

laying their eyes on it. To the extreme art lovers, this masterful work of art

would be the highlight of their life to see. It is praised as one of the greatest pieces of art ever made along with its creator, Michelangelo.

If I could buy this work of art, I most likely wouldn t buy it. I

probably wouldn t buy it, because I would feel uncomfortable with a statue

of a naked man in my home. It would seem a bit queerish for a man, who

isn t a huge art lover, to have a statue of a naked man in their home. On the

other hand, if I were a huge art lover, I probably would buy it. It is one of the finest works of art ever, and to own it would be great in itself. To own such a statue would be an honor for an art lover, but it would feel a bit strange for me to own it.

Michelangelo s David is without a doubt, one, if not thee, of the

greatest masterpieces ever known to man. It is a beautiful work of art.

Michelangelo did a masterful job creating it. He is one of the most inspired

creators in the history of art. He was a sculptor, architect, painter, and poet, and he exerted a tremendous influence on his contemporaries and on

subsequent Western art in general. He is possibly the greatest artist ever to

live. Along with David he has created many other masterpieces worthy of

his name. Among them are: the Piet , the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the tomb

of Julius II, Last Judgment, and St. Peter s Basilica. He is, without a doubt,

one of the greatest influences in the history of art. He now rests in peace in a fine monument in the church of Santa Croce.
