Changing the World
There are many things that could effect the lives of millions, but there is one thing that really stands out from the others, The Power of One . The important thing about the power of one person is that we need to look at what that one person is doing that is making a difference. One person can make a difference in someone else’s life. If someone changes your entire life or your outlook on it, you can definitely agree to the power of one. Someone that can reach out to just one person’s life is just as important as someone who can change the lives of millions. A person goes through many difficult times. Sometimes with others and sometimes on their own. Every person can change someone else s life just by giving them a simple smile. Life is tough and everyone must learn how to live on his or her own, otherwise it will be difficult to survive.
In the movie, it shows that one person can change the world. That one person may not be able to do a whole lot physically to change the world, but one person has the power to inspire others to help that person change the world. It also shows very firmly that one person can set an example for others that may affect the outcome of any situation. One is very meaningful and significant. P.K. becomes a symbol of Christ by trying to make all the people respect each other. To not make people respect each other by their culture or color of skin, but by their content of their character. P.K. wants everyone to get along with each other. He tries to make the white people get along with the black people so there will not be any more prejudices. He tries to stop all the violence that is going on. P.K. thinks that the black community should be allowed in the white community as partners and friends. When he has to box to solve a myth, he fights his nanny’s son who was born and raised at the same time. When he wins the fight, he decides to start a school for the African tribes, which is later demolished by Afrikaner police. He helps the black community to learn English, to learn how to read and write properly. P.K. helps them because one day in the future the whites and blacks will join hands and work together. During his time in a prison with his friend, Doc, that was when he began to change the lives of many. Doc was asked by the commanding officer to prepare a concert for a man that was visiting. P.K. and Doc gathered the African people to help with it. They prepare a song made especially for them. When the African people sing, it may just sound like part of the sound track where as it is intended to tell us of their feelings. The songs they sing, especially while in prison, are songs that cry for liberation and freedom from the oppressors. Songs that long for hope to come and heal their shattered hearts.
Geel Piet is another that tries to help change the world. He is an old man from one of the African tribes. In a system where the black man has no say, Geel Piet acts as the punching bag of the white man. Geel Piet is put to represent the African community and the oppression under white power.
The concept of the power of one does not necessarily happen in the movies. It happens in real life, too. All through history, there have been many people who have stood out and made an impact in the way we think and understand things.
During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Malcolm X was no exception. He believes that blacks should achieve that goal by any means necessary. In a time when blacks were not allowed to sit in the front of the bus, using the same bathroom, or
Harriet Tubman was an influence on everyone because of her courage, strength, and efforts. Her wits, brains, and strength helped her live as long as she did and survive through the cold, dark world for blacks. She led them to freedom along the clandestine route known as the Underground Railroad. She also led an estimated 300 slaves to freedom including her mother and father and six of her 11 brothers and sisters.
Mahatma Gandhi was another example of someone who had great determination and beliefs. Throughout his life, he brought attention to his beliefs of equality and nonviolence – two main factors of world peace. In 1906, Gandhi began his peaceful revolution. He declared he would go to jail or even die before obeying an anti-Asian law. Thousands of Indians joined him in this civil disobedience campaign. He started protest campaigns and organized demonstrations, but never used violence. This would decrease the hate against him and his fellow believers, and increase the respect felt towards him. Gandhi s one aim was that everybody could live together in peace and harmony. His teachings, thoughts, and beliefs hold great knowledge and will be forever left as his legacy.
I have a dream today. This is a famous quote by one of histories most famous and influential civil rights activists of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Being a civil rights activist, he wanted nothing more than for his people to have equality. King wanted to earn civil rights. He did not want them handed to him. King was all about equal rights for all people, peace and freedom. He was inspired by the belief that love and peaceful protest could eliminate social injustice. Martin Luther King, Jr., became one of the outstanding black leaders in the United States. He aroused whites and blacks alike to protest racial discrimination, poverty, and war. King’s brief career greatly advanced the cause of civil rights in the United States. His personality helped unite many blacks in a search for peaceful solutions to racial oppression. Although, King’s views were challenged by blacks that had lost faith in nonviolence, his belief in the power of nonviolent protest remained strong.
Nelson Mandela was a South African resistance leader who received a life sentence on Robben Island for opposing apartheid. He is still leading the fight against apartheid after spending nearly three decades of his life behind bars. He has sacrificed his private life and his youth for his people, and remains South Africa’s best known and loved hero. While serving his sentence, he was charged in the Rivonia Trial with sabotage. Mandela s statements in court during these trials are classics in the history of the resistance to apartheid, and they have been an inspiration to all who have opposed it. Nelson Mandela’s life symbolizes the achievement of the human spirit over man’s inhumanity to man. His struggle throughout life to do away with racism shows his courage and heroics. South Africa is very lucky to have a leader of that character. Without Mandela, blacks would still be opposed and would not have equal opportunities. They would not have a proper education or have any basic human rights.
These are just some examples of how millions of people in the world use the power of one . It does not have to be a famous person or anything. All you need is to be determined to help people that are in need of it.
