Senior Privilages Essay, Research Paper
Senior Privileges
South Vermillion High School should give the seniors special privileges that the rest of the classes do not get. Open campus lunch should be offered for the seniors only. The school should also let the seniors have a class trip. One privilege that the senior class has lost should be regained, letting the seniors leave half-day on the last day of school and bring celebration items to the parking lot. None of these requests are too much to ask. If these privileges were granted, the senior s year would be greatly enhanced.
Open campus lunch for the senior class only is a great idea. It is also practical. If only the seniors were leaving, the restaurants would not be over crowded and the school lunch program would continue for the underclassmen. By the time students reach their last year of high school they are more responsible. Allowing the students to leave for lunch with the obligation to return will give them responsibility. This will also prepare them for how college life will be. If students do not return it will be their loss. Open campus will also be something that the underclassmen can look forward to. It will give the underclassmen more respect for the seniors.
Having a senior trip would be a great way to reward the seniors. High school should be one of the best experiences of my life. I am sad to say that so far it hasn t been. Students want something to mark the end of their high school careers. They want a special last memory with the students of their class. In the eighth grade our class went to Hannibal Missouri. It was a fun experience at that time, but now that we will be graduating we should also have a final trip with our class. It would be nice to take a trip to a fun and exciting place allowing us to enjoy our young lives while we can as opposed to an educational trip. The underclassmen will wish their turn was here and look forward to it. There is no question that South Vermillion High School is strict, but we would not complain about it if they would reward us as seniors. Lastly this privilege would be fun, and possibly encourage students not to drop out of school when the going gets tough. Students would strive for the privilege if it were offered.
Our last day of high school ever will be just like any other day of school. It is disappointing that this day will not stand out as a special day in our lives. I remember when my older brother, Jeremy, was a senior in high school. Jeremy and his friends had a great senior year. The school wasn t nearly as strict in nineteen ninety-six as it is today. The tradition at South Vermillion High School used to be that all of the seniors could leave half-day on their last day of school and return at three-thirty to the parking lot with all of their celebration items. Students usually brought things such as water guns, water balloons and shaving cream. The seniors then took their spots in the parking lot and prepared to cream the underclassmen. The last day of school used to be the most fun day of the year. That day gave the students a chance to cut up and act silly. In a way, the seniors went out with a bang. As long as your items are checked before you enter the parking lot to weed out any harmful items, there should not be a problem. The students would be cooperative in cleaning up after themselves as long as they could have the fun. It would be okay to let the teachers come outside also. The teachers could remind the students to clean up after they were finished. The faculty could possibly even enjoy watching the students have a good time. This privilege would be a fun experience for the students and the teachers.
I speak for the entire senior class when I say South Vermillion, lighten up! After working hard for four years to get where we are, we feel this would be a simple reward. All we ask is to have a little fun. It will not disrupt our learning nor will it corrupt our minds. After high school is over people tend to drift away from their friends that have always been there. Graduation is very sad and unlike any other day. The senior year is the last year for memories with your childhood friends. Naturally everyone wants to make the best of it. There will be some nice memories that we will get from our time spent at South Vermillion. I think that the school administration, of all people, would be concerned with the students getting as much out of high school as possible. They should understand since they have already been through that point in their lives. I m sure that they wanted to enjoy their last year as well. The difference is that the administration probably did have fun and we probably will not. The bottom line is that the senior class should have special privileges since it is their last year to be at school.
