Walt Disney Essay, Research Paper
Walt Disney, one of America?s most famous producers of
all time, admired by people of all races and ages, from children to great
grandpas and grandmas, Walt Disney was definitely a popular man. I
really admire him for his productions, his animations, and his
accomplishments. He shows his leadership by the goals in which he set
and achieved. Also by the people he directed and assisted. Walt Disney
is a great example of a leader.
Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois.
He left school at the age of sixteen. Later he was educated at art
schools in Chicago and Kansas City. In 1923 he began producing
animated motion pictures in Hollywood in partnership with his brother
Roy O. Disney. Walt?s first cartoon series was ?Oswald the Rabbit.? He
produced it for Universal Studios in 1926. ?Steamboat Willie? was
produced in 1928 by his own company. This was when Disney?s most
popular and enduring cartoon character, Mickey Mouse was
introduced. ?Steamboat Willie? utilized sound for the first time in an
animated cartoon. Many other characters which are popular today
were introduced later. For example, in 1930 Pluto was first seen in the
cartoon ?The Chain Gang.? Then in 1932 Goofy was seen by the public
in ?Mickey?s Revenue.? Donald Duck appeared in 1934 in ?The Wise
Little Hen.? One of Walt?s first awards was given in 1932. Walt won an
honorary Oscar (Academy Award) for his creation of Mickey Mouse.
His first animated feature-length film was produced in 1937. ?Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs? still remains popular today. In 1939
?The Wizard of Oz? became a Disney Movie Classic. Many Children?s
books have since inspired Disney feature length animated films such as
?The Little Mermaid,? ?Cinderella,? ?Bambi,? ?Beauty and the Beast,?
?Peter Pan,? ?Aladdin,? and many more!
Other than creating and producing animations Disney also has
many other accomplishments. He first opened Anaheim, California?s
Disneyland in July of 1955. $17 million dollars was invested in this
amusement park and it began with 22 attractions. Ten years later, in
1965, the investment was recorded as $48 million dollars with 47
attractions. Disney was soon making comments of starting a ?second
Disneyland.? In 1958 he was already evaluating possible sites for his
?second park.? A year later he decided on Fl
out hotels, lakes, campgrounds, and entrances for visitors and tourists.
Unfortunately the week after the plans for the ?Second Disneyland?
were publicly announced on television, Walt died of lung cancer.
His partner of 40 years, brother Roy O. Disney, carried on with ?Walt
Disney World.? On October 1, 1971 the Magic Kingdom opened at
Walt Disney World. This 27,400 acre park was a fantastic success.
Consisting of The Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, MGM Studios, water parks,
hotels, race tracks, and golf courses. Disney World is quite a large
place for vacationing.
Over the years, from the 1920?s to the 1990?s Walt Disney has
been a very admired individual. All over the world you will find theme
parks, stores, pictures, souvenirs, shirts, and other items representing
him and his works. His animations and creations have remained very
popular throughout the years.
I would have to say he is my most admired leader because he
reaches out to children with his animations. He makes people and
families happy with his movies and his theme parks set in the ?perfect
and blissful world.? He fulfilled his dreams and his goals by creating
animations and making people cheerful. His leadership skills are shown
by his orchestration of the construction of two world known and
loved theme parks which promote wholesome family morals. He also
used his leadership skills when creating the well known mouse,
?Mickey? and friends. His animations have touched the hearts of many
and still bring all of us a special magic!
Walt Disney was a well known, fantastic leader. He showed the
characteristics of a good leader by his goals, actions, and
accomplishments. Walt Disney is and will always be my admired leader
