Should School Uniforms Be Compulsory Essay, Research Paper
School Uniforms should be compulsory for all students at primary and secondary level. There are many reasons, which justify this including discipline, discrimination and to give the students a sense of identity.
If all students at a particular school didn’t wear school uniforms, there would be discrimination between the financially advantaged people and the disadvantaged people. The wealthier people will tend to look down and shun the poorer people as it gives them a chance to flaunt their wealth. School uniforms are also good in the way that it abhors individual rebellion. Many adolescents have a tendency to skip class or sometimes they put on a show to prove their uniqueness. Having a school uniform therefore helps justice to prevent the few bad apples in the school from embarrassing the school or playing truant. This is because they are easily identifiable as school children due to their uniforms. Having a uniform also helps the school faculty restrict people from wearing too revealing, obscene or strange clothing. Students sometimes feel this is a way to attract attention but it will deter potential students and might also tarnish the school’s reputation. This is obviously not in the school’s best interest.
Uniforms help define a person and also enforce discipline. They give a student body more togetherness and a greater sense of community. They also, as shown above, deter many of the bad points related to wearing casual clothing.
